barn-to-home conversion

We've been busy these past few years turning a very special mid 19th-century barn into a home.  You can follow our progress on our video blog.  Goals for this project:

• preserve a piece of history and demonstrate the suitability of timber frame barns for adaptive reuse
• echo local agricultural building style, using reclaimed materials and local resources whenever possible
• integrate a variety of technologies that optimize energy efficiency:  geothermal, SIPs, ICFs, etc.
• teach our kids practical skills and perseverance

​Since finishing the house, we've helped several clients turn barns into homes.  We can erect a timber frame structure or addition on your property and work with your builder to integrate it in to your building's foundation and systems.  We can also supply your builder with reclaimed materials and installation expertise.
